A boutique firm with serious credentials
Meitnerium pairs the technical depth of a large practice with the personal attention only a small one can give. Every client works directly with the principal.
- Certified Practising Accountant (CPA)
- Registered Tax Agent (26029280)
- Xero Certified Advisor
Matthew Thomas is a Certified Practising Accountant and Registered Tax Agent who founded Meitnerium to bring genuinely personal accounting to South Australian small businesses.
Before going out on his own, Matthew spent more than a decade in senior finance roles within Australian manufacturing companies — experience that gives him a rare commercial perspective. He doesn't just prepare your numbers; he understands what it takes to actually run a business, manage cash flow and make decisions under pressure.
That background shapes how the firm works: practical, no-jargon advice grounded in the real-world realities of running a small business — backed by deep technical knowledge of Australian tax law, company structures, trusts and superannuation.
The name "Meitnerium" honours Lise Meitner, the physicist behind nuclear fission — a nod to precision, rigour and getting the detail exactly right. It's how we approach every return, statement and piece of advice.
- Accounting qualification, TAFE SA (2024)
- Graduate, H&R Block Tax School
- With Meitnerium since 2021
Danielle Furniss is one of the newer faces in the profession — and she took an unusually adventurous route to get here. Before accounting, she spent several years travelling the world as an archaeologist, until the disruptions of COVID-19 prompted a change of direction. Archaeology's loss has been Meitnerium's gain.
Danielle joined the firm in 2021, completed the H&R Block tax school, and earned her accounting qualification through TAFE SA in 2024. She brings the same curiosity and methodical eye for detail that once served her on a dig site to the day-to-day work of keeping clients compliant and organised.
She looks after the practical engine room of client compliance: bookkeeping, BAS preparation, corporate secretarial work, taxable payments reporting, and employer obligations — including portable long service leave, workers compensation insurance (Return to Work SA), Single Touch Payroll (STP) and superannuation guarantee.
